How a Blind Wisconsin Lamb Who Lives on “Blind Faith Farm” Continues to Change Many Lives
Sep. 11, 2018
There are many sheep in the world, but maybe none quite like PEANUT, the star of the heartwarming true story, “Peanut of Blind Faith Farm” written by Wisconsin author, Jim Thompson. Described as a delightful book for adults and children alike, Peanut. She was a tiny lamb born blind, when Jim and his wife Laura, hobby sheep farmers helped Peanut survive and thrive. This compassionate story has expanded our concept of what is “normal.” Jim’s beautiful book promotes empathy and acceptance of anyone, animals or humans, who struggle through adversity every day. More about the author –Jim is an Air Force veteran and graduated from UW-Milwaukee with a degree in zoology and spent 20 years as a Lake Michigan Fisheries Technician with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. It wasn’t until he semi-retired and took up hobby farming with his wife, Laura, Then Peanut entered the scene and changed their lives and turned Jim into an author. The underlying message of empowerment for the disabled - animal and human - comes to life on the pages of this delightful picture book illustrated by Wisconsin author, Rebecca Gavney Driscoll. Adventures Hiking the Ice Age Trail
Nov. 06, 2018
Hello, I'm Melanie Radzicki McManus.
I'm a freelance writer whose passion is exploring the world on foot. I've hiked Iceland's Laugavegur Trail, walked Spain's Vía de la Plata (Camino de Santiago), climbed Mt. Teide in the Canary Islands and completed New Zealand's Tongariro Crossing. After setting the women's fastpacking record on America's Ice Age Trail, then breaking my own record two years later, I wrote Thousand-Miler: Adventures Hiking the Ice Age Trail (Wisconsin Historical Society Press, 2017). When it debuted, Cheryl Strayed, author of Wild, put it tops on her reading list. Now, my goal is to hike America's 10 other National Scenic Trails. To date I've added the New England Trail and Florida Trail to my thru-hike list, plus thru-biked the Natchez Trace Parkway (only about 60 of the Natchez Trace's 400+ miles of hiking trails have been completed). I've also explored 600 miles of the 4,600-mile North Country Trail. Come follow along on my adventures!

Nov. 10, 2018 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Based upon input from our club members as to the suggested dates, I have determined that Sat., Nov 10th would work best for our Hwy Cleanup. Not only are there the fewest scheduling conflicts, but we know that by then the weeds and bugs will be knocked back by freezing temperatures. Please put this date on your calendars. I will circulate a sign up sheet later in October. Thank you very much. Andy |
