Kari Walton is the founder and Executive Director of Prairie Music & Arts. She has a bachelor's degree in music from Lawrence University, a master of music from the University of Louisville, and a music educator for over thirty years. A leader with many hats, she has led the development of Prairie Music & Arts since 1999 and manages general operations, program development, fundraising, and outreach. With a belief that the arts should be accessible to all, she has created projects that take arts-based opportunities directly to youth throughout the Dane County area. A committed community member, Kari has partnered on Sun Prairie projects such as the mural at Sheehan Park and Make Music Sun Prairie. She also serves on the Sun Prairie Community Schools leadership team, is part of the 2023-2024 Leadership Sun Prairie cohort, is on the Sun Prairie Pride Alliance board, and helps with the Rainbow Garden at Northside Elementary. Originally from Georgia, Kari has lived throughout the southeastern part of the United States and considers North Carolina her adopted home. When not at Prairie Music & Arts, Kari is happiest digging in her garden, paddling a kayak, and spending time with family.
