Orphan Train Project

Speakers are Joanna Jones, the Child and Youth Care Manager from TLC Children's Home in South Africa (see www.tlc.org.za) and Mariela Savkova, our intermediary for Bulgarian orphanages for the last twenty-one years.

The Love of Christ Orphanage (TLC) fosters, places and adopts vulnerable children from a family-run home that helps every child in its care to grow up in a loving and responsible family. Joanna tells us she loves working with babies. Many of the babies and other children in the care of TLC have been abandoned and may be quite ill.

Mariela Savkova's bio states: "I have 5 years' experience as director of municipal and non-government projects for social services for orphans and kids in risk. As intermediary of Orphan Train Project for more than 21 years, I worked to empower orphans through education, development their individual talents and skills for independent life. In my current professional capacity for more than 6 years, I am monitoring how the so called de-institutionalization policy of orphanages in Bulgaria is being implemented with European funds."

I think your members, their spouses and guests will find the stories Joanna and Mariela tell most compelling. There are many ways to help in both Bulgaria and South Africa.
